During my business trip to head office in May, I explored our hanger factory, too.
Every time I visit there and see their making process, I feel all craftsmen’s deep passion for creating the finest hangers in the world. That empowers me.
When I walked around there, I found out tiny and interesting falling at the feet of a craftsman.
Can you guess what it is?
It is just a wood chip, but can you imagine which hanger model was in the process of being made?
The answer is our men’s jacket hanger “NH-2”, our splendid joint-less hanger.

This model is created by a skilled craftsman’s hand.
When he shaved the wood by a plane, this long and small wood chip was produced.
The more skilled the craftsman, the longer chips have produced.
I have tried to shave the wood by a plane once, but the plane didn’t move smoothly and I couldn’t shave the wood enough.
So this small chip like the picture shows us the craftsman’s high technique.
For many people, this is just trash. But for me, it was proof of his fine skill.
You may find out some treasures at your feet.

5月に豊岡にある本社へ出張した際、工場にも足を運びました。
工場でハンガーの製作過程を見る度に、職人の技術の高さ、「良いものを作ろう」という気概を肌で感じることができます。
さて、工場の中を歩いている時に、ある職人の足元に面白いものが落ちていたので目に留まりました。
これが何だか分かりますか？
正解は木材から出た木くずなのですが、ではこの木くずは当社のどのハンガーの制作過程で出た木くずだと思いますか？
答えはメンズジャケットハンガーの「NH-2」、私達が一本物ハンガーと呼んでいる最高級ハンガーです。

NH-2は熟練の職人がフリーハンドで木材を削り出して作っているハンガーです。
南京鉋（なんきんがんな）と呼ばれる鉋で木材を削ると、写真のような細長い木くずが出ます。
熟練の職人ほど滑らかに削ることができるため、木くずもより細長くなるのです。
私も一度南京鉋で木材を削る体験をしたことがありますが、削るどころか鉋を満足に動かすことさえできず、
ようやく削れても木くずは短くてボロボロとしたものでした。
画像のように、薄く細長く、くるりと丸まった木くずは職人の高い技術力を示す何よりの証なのです。
殆どの人にとって、これは単なる小さいゴミに過ぎないと思いますが、私にとっては大きな発見となりました。
皆さんもよく目を凝らして見てみると、足元に思いもよらないものが落ちているかもしれませんね。
